Nandi attract £150k SPUR funding
01/07/2004

Nandi Biotechnology Limited has attracted £150k of SPUR grant funding. This is the maximum grant allowable under the scheme which is aimed at supporting significant technological advances for UK industry.

Nandi own the patented technology for a novel protein manufacturing process that allows for the production of selected functional properties, and isolation of beneficial components from protein raw materials such as Egg, Whey and Soy.

The SPUR grant will be used to optimise the protein functional properties for use as food ingredients.

Following on from the SMART Award, which enabled Nandi to confirm the technical and commercial potential of proteins resulting from the Nandi manufacturing process, the SPUR funding will enable investigation of wider applications such as reformed meat products and coffee whiteners, as well as funding pre-production prototypes and pilot plant production.

SPUR (Support for Products Under Research) grants are open all year round to UK companies with up to 250 employees and either total assets of less than approximately £8 million (ECU 10 million) or a turnover of less than £15 million (ECU 20 million). Eligible projects must involve a significant technological advance for the industry and must not be defence related.
